Practical checks when EFTPOS is unreliable
When payment issues appear, record what is happening before restarting everything. Is one terminal affected or all of them? Are card transactions failing, timing out or taking longer than usual? Can staff browse the internet, use the point-of-sale system or make a cloud phone call?
If only one device is affected, check its power, cabling, battery and Wi-Fi connection first. If every terminal and other online services have stopped, inspect the router status and broadband connection. If internet access works but payments do not, contact the payment support team with the error message and time of the failure.
Avoid repeatedly rebooting equipment without a plan. It can remove useful evidence, interrupt transactions that are still processing and make it harder for support teams to identify the cause. A documented incident process gives staff clear actions and escalation details, especially across multiple sites.
